OUR APPROACH

Working together as peers across the Western Indian Ocean region and sectors to catalyze innovation and long-term impact

WHAT IS A MULTI-STAKEHOLDER APPROACH?

A multi-stakeholder approach is a structured, transparent and highly participatory collaboration between two or more stakeholder groups working together towards a common goal. It offers a significant opportunity to generate more innovative, appropriate, locally-owned and ultimately sustainable solutions, supporting transformative change.

WORKING WITH THE COLLECTIVE LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

The Collective Leadership Institute (CLI) plays a key role in supporting Our Blue Future’s multi-stakeholder approach and strengthening the capacities of its members. It contributes expertise in bringing leadership concepts to enlivening the alliance by encouraging a high-quality and inclusive stakeholder engagement and dialogue process within Our Blue Future.

This includes assessing and leveraging Our Blue Future strengths in the Collective Leadership Compass to navigate a complex transformative change process through the four phases of the Dialogic Change Model, below. This helps maintain a focus on building Our Blue Future as a diverse multi-stakeholder partnership that is inclusive, participatory and results-oriented.

VOICES FROM OUR PARTNERS

Chris Whyte (ACEN Foundation)

“Our Blue Future takes us back to SDG 17 and prompts us to think more creatively about the importance of high-quality collaboration and use of resources we have as partner organisations for the betterment of the WIO region.”

Dr Samantha Petersen (WWF)

“I am calling on governments and other partners to join Our Blue Future and come together to create a collaborative space for action towards a Sustainable Blue Economy for the benefit of nature, people and business in the Western Indian Ocean.”

Mubarak Sodha (PMAESA Secretariat)

“For me, my participation in the start-up discussions and formation of the OBF is an excellent learning experience in the field of stakeholder engagement. In the early phases of our engagement the sheer number of acronyms and phrases to denote approaches, methodologies were – put it mildly – rather daunting.
However –the purpose and aspirations of OBF and, more critically – the approach itself i.e. the “Dialogic Change Model” are becoming clearer as engagements continue.”

Robin Farrington (GIZ)

“We can only transition to a Sustainable Blue Economy if the private sector and communities take a lead role as engines of the economy.”
