The Gap
Maritime shipping generates nearly 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and the WIO's major ports currently have no shore power infrastructure. Every vessel berthed in the region runs diesel generators continuously, emitting pollutants precisely at the point where switching to grid power is most feasible.
What We're Building
Working with port authorities, shipping lines, and national energy utilities across four WIO ports to develop the policy frameworks, technical specifications, and partnership structures needed for shore power electrification, cutting emissions and operational costs simultaneously.
No single port authority, shipping line, or energy company will fund the multi-stakeholder alignment and feasibility work that makes electrification viable; foundation investment funds this enabling layer, making the capital case compelling for all parties.
